Money has always been the big issue of the day at least for most of us.

Money…The Root of All Fun as We Age

Money has always been the big issue of the day at least for most of us. How to spend it, how to save it, how to invest it and sometimes how to hide it! As we get older the word money takes on some new meanings. When we are young we are examining investments that are often long term. We often want to take a few risks to make more dollars, and sometimes are willing to take big risks. If one investment or decision to spend money does not work, there are many years to rectify the situation. Of course the spending is different in our twenties and thirties. We have mortgages, children expenses, college to think about, and of course adequate insurance of all kinds. However as we age our needs change drastically, and we are often not willing to take major risks with our hard earned money that has to last during our golden years.

It does seem sometimes that the more money one has the more there is to worry about.

Sometimes we grieve over lost money which does seem silly at times. There were times when we sold a house too soon or maybe too late for the market situation. This was also true with investments. Sometimes that stock we sold went up the day after we let it go. Does that story sound familiar? It is often easier said then done, to just let it go. Nothing you can do will change what happened.

Today we are living in a very difficult economy, and many of us are trying to cut back on many things so we can pay our bills and do the important things. For some of us this saving and cutting back is complete necessity to survive, and others it will just give us extra money for special things. And we are all worried about having money for living comfortably during our senior years, especially those of us in baby boomer range and above.

What if we had a designated death day? Not going to happen in our life time. But what fun we would have spending all the dollars; making fun purchases, taking special trips, eating out, giving our grandkids extra gifts.

We are all busy saving for that rainy day. We want enough money to pay our bills, take care of any unexpected emergencies and frankly just to have some fun.

I am not saying to go out and blow all the dough. But take some time to do things you enjoy, buy special treats, take a coveted trip, have a fancy dinner or special bottle of wine….Life is short and way too short to deny everything you love.
